Keith A. Bourgeois, M.D.
Keith A Bourgeois, M.D. grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana He received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology (1979) from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and a Doctor of Medicine (1983) from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans. Following an internship in Lafayette, Louisiana he completed his residency in ophthalmology in 1987 at the University of Texas Medical School – Hermann Eye Center in Houston, Texas. This was followed by a fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. He further advanced his training by studying abroad in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and continues to attend meetings throughout the United States and Europe.
After working with various colleagues, he established Downtown Eye Associates specializing in diseases of the retina and vitreous in 1997. With extensive surgical experience, including over 10,000 retina surgeries and thousands of in-office laser procedures, Dr. Bourgeois was recognized in local magazines as one of Houston’s “Top Docs®” for 15 consecutive years and Texas “Super Doctors®” for 10 years.
In 2012, Dr:Bourgeois served as president of the Harris County Medical Society, the largest county medical society in the United States with over 10,000 members. He was the 2012 – 2013 president of Texas Ophthalmological Association. The Texas Medical Association, the largest state medical society with over 57,000 physician and medical student members, elected Dr: Bourgeois to the Board of Trustees in 2015 and as Vice Chair in 2022.
He is an adjunct assistant professor at At UT Health- Houston and clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He has helped train medical students, interns, residents and retinal fellows and has authored several publications involving diseases and surgery of the eye.
He is married to Kelly Best Bourgeois, M.D., a retired anesthesiologist and oil painter, who has a local studio in Sawyer Yards. They raised three children, who they enjoy supporting in academic and professional pursuits. In his spare time, Dr: Bourgeois enjoys sports and cultural events, as well as fishing, biking, and traveling.
John W. Miller, M.D.
John W. Miller, M.D. was born in EI Paso, Texas, but has lived in the Houston area since he was 9 years of age. He attended The University of Texas at EI Paso for a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, earned in 1981. He then attended The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston for his Doctor of Medicine, earned in 1985. He completed an internship with Texas Tech in EI Paso, then returned to The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston – Hermann Eye Center to complete his residency in ophthalmology in 1993. He completed a fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous in the same training center in Houston.
After training, he worked with a variety of colleagues, then joined Downtown Eye Associates in February 1998. He has extensive experience in treating retinal diseases both in the operating room and in the office. He travels to other offices in nearby towns to provide retinal consultation for patients outside the Houston area.
He is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and has kept that certification current by renewing every 10 years. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Dr. Miller and his wife, Faythe, were married in 1986 while he was still in training. They have three grown daughters, with five grandchildren, soon to be seven. Sugie and Papa John, as they are known, look forward to spending time with both children and grandchildren. When possible, Dr. Miller likes to convince family members to accompany him on a great rollercoaster ride. He also enjoys learning about space exploration and recently was able to travel to Florida for the launch of a moon rocket.
